Jesus Can Restore What Life Has Withered | Luke 6:6-11

Today’s Gospel from Luke 6:6-11 gives us a powerful image of a man with a withered hand standing before Jesus. His hand had lost its strength and usefulness, but Jesus saw beyond his condition. While the scribes and Pharisees were watching for a reason to accuse Him, Jesus was looking for an opportunity to heal.

Jesus called the man forward and said, “Stretch out your hand.” The man responded in faith, and his hand was restored.

This Gospel reminds us that Jesus still sees the places in our lives that have become weak, wounded, or withered. There may be areas of your life that once had strength but now feel lifeless. Your faith may feel weak. Your marriage may be struggling. Your finances may have become difficult. Your heart may be carrying wounds from the past. Perhaps you have prayed for something for a long time and are beginning to wonder whether God still hears you.

But today’s Gospel tells us: Jesus sees you.

The man with the withered hand did not have to explain everything to Jesus. Christ already knew his condition. In the same way, Jesus knows what you are carrying today. He knows the pain you hide from others. He knows the tears you shed in secret. He knows the prayers you cannot put into words.

And just as He called that man to stand before Him, Jesus invites you to come closer.

Jesus Asks Us to Stretch Out Our Hands

The command “Stretch out your hand” is more than a command to receive physical healing. It is an invitation to trust.

Sometimes we want Jesus to restore us while we remain afraid to expose our wounds. We hide behind fear, shame, disappointment, or discouragement. But Christ calls us to stretch out what is broken and place it before Him.

Stretch out your wounded heart.

Stretch out your broken dreams.

Stretch out your troubled family.

Stretch out your fears about tomorrow.

Stretch out your weakness.

Stretch out your faith, even if it feels small.

What you place in the hands of Jesus can be transformed by His grace.

The man did not know exactly what would happen when Jesus told him to stretch out his hand. He simply obeyed.

And his obedience became the doorway to restoration.

Do Not Let Other People’s Opinions Stop Your Healing

There will always be people who misunderstand your journey.

Some may remember your past mistakes. Others may doubt your ability to change. Some may criticize your faith or question why you continue to hope.

But your healing does not depend on their approval.

The man with the withered hand had every reason to remain in the background. Yet Jesus called him forward.

Do not be afraid to come forward when Christ calls you.

Do not allow shame to keep you hidden.

Do not allow yesterday’s failures to determine tomorrow’s possibilities.

Jesus is more interested in restoring you than condemning you.

Jesus Chooses Mercy

Jesus asked the powerful question: “Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath rather than to do evil, to save life rather than to destroy it?”

The question reveals the heart of God.

God’s law is not meant to become an excuse for withholding love. True obedience to God always leads us toward mercy, compassion, and love.

Jesus saw a suffering man and responded with compassion.

This challenges us as Christians.

How do we respond when someone around us is hurting?

Do we judge them, or do we help them?

Do we focus on their weaknesses, or do we remind them of their dignity?

Do we criticize their struggles, or do we become instruments of God’s mercy?

The Gospel calls us to become people who do good, save, heal, encourage, forgive, and love.

Jesus Can Restore What Has Withered

Perhaps something in your life feels withered today.

Your joy may have disappeared.

Your hope may have become weak.

Your prayer life may feel dry.

Your relationship with God may feel distant.

Your family may be going through a difficult season.

Your dreams may seem impossible.

But do not conclude that the story is over.

The same Jesus who restored the man’s hand is still Lord over your life.

Sometimes His healing comes suddenly. Sometimes it comes gradually. Sometimes He changes the circumstances, and sometimes He changes our hearts so that we can walk through those circumstances with renewed strength.

But whatever form His grace takes, Jesus never stops being present.

Bring Him what is broken.

Bring Him what is weak.

Bring Him what you cannot fix.

And listen for His gentle command:

“Stretch out your hand.”

Today, stretch out your hand in faith.

Give Jesus the part of your life you have been afraid to surrender.

Give Him your family.

Give Him your future.

Give Him your pain.

Give Him your unanswered prayers.

Give Him your weaknesses.

And trust that the hands of Christ are still powerful enough to restore.

A Prayer for Today

Lord Jesus,

You know every wounded and withered place in my life.

You know where I have lost strength, where I have lost hope, and where I have become tired of waiting.

Today, You call me to stretch out my hand.

So I come before You without hiding.

Take my fears, my wounds, my failures, and my burdens.

Restore what has been broken.

Strengthen what has become weak.

Revive what has become lifeless.

Heal my heart and renew my faith.

Give me the courage to trust You even when I cannot see what You are doing.

And when You ask me to stretch out my hand, give me the faith to obey.

Jesus, restore what life has withered in me.

Amen.

Today’s Reminder

What feels withered in your life is not beyond the healing power of Jesus.

Whatever you are facing today, do not give up. Bring it before Christ. Stretch out your hand in faith and allow Him to work in your life.

Jesus still restores. Jesus still heals. Jesus still gives hope.
