Gospel Reflection — Luke 8:19–21
Jesus says:
“My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”
These words are not a rejection of His Mother Mary or His family. Rather, Jesus shows us what it truly means to belong to God’s family.
It is easy to hear God’s Word. We hear Scripture at Mass, read the Bible, listen to homilies, and receive Christian teachings. But the real question is:
What do I do with what I hear?
When God tells us to forgive, do we forgive?
When He tells us to love, do we love?
When He calls us to be patient, do we remain patient?
When He asks us to trust Him, do we trust Him even when life is difficult?
Faith becomes powerful when it moves from our ears to our hearts, and from our hearts into our actions.
Mary is the perfect example. She did not merely hear God’s Word; she welcomed it, trusted it, and lived it. Her life teaches us that obedience to God can transform an ordinary life into something extraordinary.
Maybe today you feel that you are far from God. Maybe you have made mistakes, lost direction, or struggled to live according to your faith.
Do not give up.
God is not asking you to become perfect overnight. He is asking you to take one faithful step at a time.
Hear His Word.
Believe His Word.
Live His Word.
And every time you choose love instead of hatred, forgiveness instead of resentment, hope instead of despair, and faith instead of fear, you are allowing God’s Word to live through you.
