Gospel Reflection: Luke 12:13–21 – True Wealth in God
The Danger of Greed and the True Meaning of Life
Today, Jesus reminds us that life is worth far more than the possessions we accumulate. We may spend our days chasing money, building businesses, acquiring property, and planning for tomorrow, yet forget the One who gives us life.
The rich man in the Gospel believed that his wealth could guarantee him many years of happiness and security. He planned to build bigger barns and enjoy everything he had accumulated. But he forgot one important truth: he could store up treasures on earth, but he could not control the length of his life.
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, there is nothing wrong with working hard, becoming successful, or providing for our families. The danger begins when wealth becomes our master, when greed closes our hearts to the suffering of others, and when we place our trust in possessions rather than in God.
God does not measure our lives by the size of our bank accounts, the houses we own, or the possessions we leave behind. He looks at the love we give, the kindness we show, the lives we touch, and the faith we live each day.
Let us therefore ask ourselves: If God called us home today, what treasures would we have to offer Him? Would our lives reflect compassion, generosity, forgiveness, and love? Have we made room for God in our plans, or have we become so busy pursuing earthly things that we have forgotten heaven?
May we learn to work diligently without becoming greedy, to prosper without forgetting the poor, and to enjoy God’s blessings without allowing them to take His place in our hearts.
Remember, the greatest wealth is not what we keep for ourselves, but the love we share, the good we do, and the treasures we build in heaven.
Let Us Pray 🙏
Heavenly Father, teach us not to place our hope in earthly riches, but in Your unfailing love. Deliver us from greed, selfishness, and the desire to possess more than we need. Give us generous hearts that recognize the needs of others and hands that are always ready to help.
May we never become so occupied with gaining the things of this world that we lose sight of the eternal life You have promised us. Help us to use our blessings wisely, love sincerely, serve humbly, and remain faithful until the day we meet You.
Lord Jesus, may our lives be rich in goodness, generous in love, and pleasing in Your sight. Amen. 🙏
A question for reflection: Are you storing up treasures only on earth, or are you also becoming rich in the things that matter to God?
